Summary

We're seeking enthusiastic and dedicated practitioners like you to define a Software Carbon Intensity (SCI) specification tailored to measuring the carbon emissions of the web.

"Almost all of us use the web daily, and like everything else we need to make using it more sustainable. By defining a standard for measuring website emissions, we make it easier for people to request greener digital services, and for responsible technologists to build them."

Chris Adams (Green Web Foundation), SCI for Web lead

Executive Summary

The Problem

The web serves 5.56 billion users globally, yet there's no standardized way to measure website carbon emissions. The same website can report dramatically different carbon intensities depending on which tool is being used, with wide variations that highlight the need for more consistent measurement approaches.

The Opportunity

Instead of waiting for the rules to be defined, you'll co-create them.

Participate in a virtual Member Assembly focused on developing the industry standard for measuring website carbon emissions (SCI for Web) specification that will lead, through a consensus-driven process, to an ISO certification, ensuring your organization's needs and constraints are built into the widely adopted guidance. It will also provide guidance for defining custom functional units for expressing specific scenarios in vendor independent ways.
